What Is SOC 2 Certification?

SOC 2 was developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as a framework for evaluating how technology companies manage customer data. To earn certification, a provider must undergo an independent audit that examines its controls in areas like:

Security – Protecting systems and information from unauthorized access
Availability – Ensuring systems remain reliable and accessible
Confidentiality – Safeguarding sensitive data from exposure

The SOC 2 certification verifies that a company is taking the right steps to keep information safe, available, and private.
