Docket Enterprise 4.2 Customizable Body Text

November 15, 2020 by Jan Spetz

A frequent request from our long-time Docket Enterprise customers has been the ability to customize the text of activities, tasks, and reminders, either to add (or remove) information or just to make them conform to firm styling.   We have provided this feature in the new 4.2 release and have also designed it to work with recent versions of 4.1 as well!   If you have CoreRelate 4.1.4932 or later, you can customize, or create your own, body text formats for the following items:

  • Docket Activities on Outlook calendars
  • Docket Tasks on Outlook task lists
  • Calendar Reminders for activities and tasks
  • Email Reminders for activities and tasks

In the 4.2 release, the legacy text-only formats have been replaced by new formats that provide a familiar Office 365 look and feel:

The legacy templates are also available should you prefer to keep using them.

Within the Docket Enterprise Workgroup Editor, a new built-in body text editor lets you easily modify selected formats by adding or removing fields.   Over 50 different field types are supported, and can be easily chosen from a field list built into the body text editor.

The editor provides a side-by-side preview of your changes as they are made:   Body Text Editor

Note the {if} tags in the template editor.  These tags will provide the ability to display table rows and headings only if a value is present, keeping the finished product clean and concise.

If you’d like to see an example of real-world output after making your changes, the editor makes that simple as well.  Just pick a sample activity, task, or reminder, as appropriate, and hit the “Send Test Email” button.   You will receive an email, with real system data, that reflects your edits as applied to that item.

With the appropriate HTML and CSS skills, it will be possible to create virtually any style of email.   Even if you don’t have extensive HTML knowledge, it should be easy to make minor changes just by following the patterns that are already defined in the existing templates.   If you need help, online help is just a click away, or BEC Support is always here to lend a hand.

We hope you enjoy this new feature!
