We are located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Once a regional provider of legal IT services, we are now a software developer providing solutions to law firms across the nation.
Throughout our 75 year history, we have remained committed to the ideals of expert knowledge about the technology we provide and exemplary customer service.
Our history in the industry:
We continue the development of BEC CoreRelate Framework, the modular suite of products including MatterLink, Docket Enterprise, LegalBar, Assemble-It, and MetaReveal.
Our plans in the coming months include a mobile app, custom tables for document assembly, and understanding the best ways to leverage new technologies, especially those coming from Microsoft.
Building on decades of experience in technology and with law firms, we began developing our own software products.
We placed a new emphasis on Microsoft Office products and became a Certified Microsoft Partner.
Understanding how invaluable Microsoft products were becoming to our clients, and yet seeing the technology gaps, we became focused on enhancing MS Office with legal functionality.
Having become experts in the field of legal technology, we became a regional provider of technical services to law firms in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Louisville, Lexington and Indianapolis.
We often became an “extension” of law firms’ IT departments, offering network installation and maintenance, document management, voice technologies, and training.
Our user interface customization and macro writing services led to the birth of LegalBar in 1997.
In the early part of the 1970’s, specialized “machines” for word processing hit the market. By today’s standards, they seem extremely clunky, but they were the forerunners of today’s personal devices.
At the time, we were known as “Business Equipment Company” and had significant relationships with the legal community in Cincinnati, Ohio. From the start, we developed substantial expertise in word processing and a reputation for exceptional training in law firms.
In 1987, responding to the growing need for computer and networking services, we became BEC Legal Systems. We offered expert services to the legal community in the areas of PC networks, time and billing, document management, case management, and digital dictation systems.
Selling and servicing state-of-the-art typewriters and adding machines, Business Equipment Company established a particular expertise in serving professional markets in Cincinnati, particularly many of the area’s well-known law firms.
At that time, nobody could have foreseen what the future held in the “business machines” industry or how much our local sales company would grow and adapt.
Business Equipment Company was founded in Cincinnati as a vendor of new and used typewriters and adding machines, often re-furbishing old equipment and offering customers the opportunity to “trade up.” It was a lucrative and patriotic business venture during the war years.
A personal standard expressed by the founder of the company about 75 years ago serves us well today…. “Ever and always conduct your business with sincerity and honesty.”
